Blogging and the Church

A story telling mechanism for the Web.   Even though it's long been fairly simple to upload web pages with absolutely anything on them,  the Weblog/Blogging phenomenon opens up a public conversation between people about the things which matter to them.

Things that matter to people are often closely tied to what they are called to be or do.  I have long believed that it is the mission of the Church as an institution to enable and be resources for its people in discovering their call;   to see and nurture their goifts,  and to do this in community.   Weblogs provide a very connected way to "go on and on" in a way that violates noone's space or monopolizes time that is not voluntarily offered (in other words,  to read somebody's Weblog,  one is not obligated to nod and stay put and listen when one does not have the interest..... we simply move on to other things that do interest us.)   On the other hand,  when we find something someone has expressed or articulated that intrigues us,  we take notice and sense that there is some possibility for discovery of a kindred spirit,  and so we read on,  and get immersed in the story of another,  however they have chosen to tell it.
