The EUMC Homecoming

Yesterday,  I arrived late to the homecoming Worship Service,  after missing quite a few weeks,  partly to vacation,  and mostly to a feeling of being disconnected.  "Disconnected" because I have not felt much of a sense of expressed interest in actually infusing some energy and personality into the Website,  and I KNOW there is a lot of that to cull and try to capture in this congregation.

Bill Barne's sermon allowed me to begin to "reset" some of my more negative vibes........"Reset to the Jesus Story" was one in a list of suggestions for what it means to "come home".  To experience home as a place of "refuge",  or protection from danger.  To "reset",  we can ,  in the context of community,  be surrounded with stories that call forth in us our connection to that larger story,  the Jesus story,  and find our role in it.  A quote that I quickly jotted down before I lost it:  "The intensity of one's sense of mission in the world is in direct proportion to the intensity of the community from which it flows".

What that says to me is that there needs to be a sense of mission for the Website;  which,  most simply put,  works in tandem with the overall Church mission,  and then seeks to give voice to and communicate the flavor of the people who make up that community.  Simply doing calendars and bulletins and continuing to rely on brochure copy that describes the various programs does not go far to communicate the flavor of this congregation.

When Bill sounded a litany-like signal "I am a COG"   to which the congregation responded "A What?" , "A COG, a Child of God",  the image of "A COG Blog" occurred to me.  We need COG Blogs;   which is to say a way to individually weblog or blog , and then to weave these together into a corporate blog;  a mission blog that beats with the life of the lives of its contributors;  stories of their lives as COGS, their efforts to incarnate their COGness in the mission of the Church ,  and then,  to express that online in Blogs,  and Stories,  and then add to these the News Aggregation that relates what we do and what we care about that's happening in the world around us, locally, nationally,  globally.
