Trip to to see an old friend and Youth Leader

I'm taking a trip up to Mayfield, KY to visit my former Youth Minister tomorrow.  A lot of "formative" experiences from those days, 1970-75,  which included visiting Koinonia Farms and the leagacy of Clarence Jordan,  being exposed to the story of The Church of the Saviour in Washington , DC,  a great early 70's honest to goodness coffeehouse (with blacklights and JCSuperstar blaring over the PA),  Mission trips, Serendipity-material and small groups and a sleepover at Lyman Coleman's house,  and many a great Labor Day retreat.  I went into the Youth Ministry as a result of all that,  and I hope I can find something like that for my son,  who will start high school this next fall.  What a time.  It will be great to talk to Mel.

Back Page news about Cheney's possible Enron dealings

From the Sojourners News letter, SojoMail,  comes this reminder,  which is scary:

The Secret World of Dick Cheney

by David Batstone 02-12-2003
In the very last page of the front section of Saturday's "The New York Times" (2/8/03) was squeezed a short story on the betrayal of democracy. The General Accounting Office announced that it was abandoning its efforts to get records of Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force. Why this story would not lead the news (instead of tailing it) is beyond my comprehension. more>>

The NYTimes article link: Agency Ends Pursuit of Cheney Energy Panel Data (requires NYTimes membership,  which wasa free last time I checked)

The Southern Baptist Leader's 'Bush Push'

Ethics Daily article on how the SBC Leaders are the "tow-the-line" court prophets for the Bush administration:

Standing four-square in Bush's bellicose corner are the Southern Baptists. Not all 15 million of them, of course, but at least the two score or so men who run the nation's largest evangelical denomination.
