Computer Stuff Failures

Part of the "downer" of today and of late is the computer stuff of mine that's breaking pre-maturely.  First,  about a month ago,  my Canon N1220U scanner (the real skinny kind, the $200 model --- at least it was when I got it for Christmas in December 2000).  It just stopped,  and never woke up.  It was out of warranty (wish now I had gotten one of those 3 year things BestBuy sells,  but it was a present from my Mom.)  So it's dead.  Just over 2 years old,

Then,  about 2 weeks ago,  my 17 inch monitor (flat screen, too) was making some high pitched sounds and all bowed in, so I restarted,  and when it came back on,  no power ,  nothing.  And this monitor,  an e-machines (serves me right for buying an e-machines anything,  right?,  and especially with no extra bonus coverage).  This was only about 18 months old.  I replaced it with a 4 year old monitor that was my #2 computer monitor (a ProView 17-incher I got from Circuit City about 3 years ago,  and then replaced that with an even older Magnavox 15" Monitor from my in-laws old computer that they gave me when they bought a new computer system. Kinda stinks , since my number 2 computer is also my office TV (it has an ATI All-Wonder Pro TV Tuner in it).

Both these events also get me that much more bummed about not having a job yet,  or even if I did,  it will likely be,  for a while,  a lower paying one,  which will mean I can't just replace this stuff.  Scanners,  while conveneient and fun,  are not neccessities,  nor is having a nicer "second computer" screen.

I just sent a resume to Dell here in Nashville to apply for an inside sales job,  which doesn't pay much,  and is another bummer in that I am having to go to "plan B" (which is get anything I can so we can be that much less behind,   as opposed to continuing to work on "higher aim" options such as web development,  and preferrably,  in a Church-related venture with a vision for online community ).

Radio drain now unclogged for the moment

HOME page not updating....it's been 40 minutes since I started trying.  How long will it take today?

Well, that figures.  Just after the above paragraph was "submitted",  I saw the long awaited "index.html" show up on the status message bar.  It is irritating , to say the least,  that I can't get an entry up to the server quicker than that.  Once it goes, however,  it seems to work fine agin until the next morning.  Could the nightly build of the xml backup files have something to do with this?  What, I don't know.  Anyway,  all this stuff is SO distracting.  I had some Cluetrain/Church related stuff to write,  and the updating problem got me off track.

Cluetrain Devotions

I noticed that Doc and Dave Winer have mentioned my Cluetrain writings this morning.  And ,  being Sunday morning,  and I'm sitting home from Church again,  blogging instead of doing the normal Sunday thing (the latter of which most often gets me thinking,  interacting,  and being myself), I guess it all fits.  The Church has ,  with few exceptions,  lost its ability to get people talking.  Instead,  we listen.  we "consume" the "stuff happening up front".   See my Cluetrain rantings in my Cluetrain Category
